The next consultation seminar that is a part of the project ‘Nothing about us without us – locally!’ took place on Wednesday, on the 8th of October, in Łódź. The discussion focused mainly on the policies preventing from discrimination. Also the representatives of NGO-s and the Office for Foreigners were present. The participants pointed out that it is essential to assist migrant from the very beginning of their presence in Poland – then any help will be more efficient and will bring more good. The migrants should be convinced as well that every crime based on the discrimination should be definitely reported to the authorities.
The representative of the Office for Foreigners displayed the formal procedures of cooperation with the foreigners from the Polish perspective and told a few words about the activities of the Office. The representative of Uniwersytet Łódzki (University of Łódź) spoke about the projects implemented by the school which aim to support the foreigners in the local labour market.
Greeks present at the meeting outlined briefly the history of Greek experiences connected with the arrival of migrants and consequent changes in the social structure. They pointed that Greek situation 20 years ago was comparable with contemporary Poland. During these years the situation stopped being seen as dramatic and migrant communities gained social acceptance.
The project is implemented as a part of the National Platform of Cooperation for Integration. The next meeting in the cities gathering significant migrants’ communites are planned in: Lublin (the 17th of October), Kraków (the 20th of October). Previous seminars took place in Warsaw and Wrocław.
