The next consultation seminar that is a part of the project ‘Nothing about us without us – locally!’ took place on Friday, on the 17th of October, in Lublin. During the meeting the representatives of local authorities were present, as well as NGO members (Centrum Wolontariatu, Homo Faber, Instytut na rzecz Państwa Prawa, Diaspora Events) and – what is most important – migrants themselves.
The discussion focused on the matters connected with teaching Polish language and its impact on integration, as well as issues of legalization of stay. Also the problem of discrimination was discussed and some accommodation problems which it causes – often the flat owners are afraid of renting their places to the foreigners. Also the problem of cultural shock which migrants experience at first was mentioned. It was highlighted how important the support is to them – migrants shall not be left alone and they should learn how to participate in the public life actively. They need to be shown that they are welcome.
The project is implemented as a part of the National Platform of Cooperation for Integration. The meetings took place in different cities in Poland gathering significant migrants’ communites: Warsaw, Wrocław, Łódź, Lublin, Cracow.
On the 29th of October the summary meeting is planned in Warsaw. We invite you to participate!
